After the murder of abortion provider Dr. George Tiller last year, Dr. Curtis Boyd, of New Mexico, has announced that he will start performing late-term abortions. He has hired two physicians who used to work Dr. Tiller on a rotating basis; all three have been the targets of threats in the past, and in 2007 Dr. Boyd's office was set on fire.
The number of providers in the U.S. has continued to drop due to lack of training and fear of retaliation by medical proffesionals. So it's extremely good news when we hear about a doctor who is willing to take the extra step to make sure women can get the care they need in these rare late term cases.
